Leigh Dougherty

Leigh Dougherty is a New Zealand contemporary artist inspired by the beautiful ocean, skies and coastlines around New Zealand she brings a unique and innovative approach to her landscape paintings.

 

Working in Acrylics and incorporating a variety of materials from structure pastes, inks, sand and glazes to achieve her particular vision.

Leigh’s abstracted landscapes sees’ a more expressionist take on her land and seascapes with vibrant colour, marks and textures. Having always incorporated strong horizonal lines in her work it seemed a natural progression to extend these lines within her paintings to capture a more fragmented view of land and sea.

Leigh's textured acrylic medium has been developed over many years through trial and error, play and study. She finds complete joy in experimenting, finding beauty in the layering and light effects with paint and glazes. She has done extended training in her profession to extend her knowledge and skills in the field of art.
