Inspired Journeys Through Aotearoa, New Zealand.

My Inspiration:
The foundation of my practice lies in the wild, wonderful landscapes of Aotearoa. Tramping through lush bush, wandering golden beaches, enveloped by the hush of ancient forests, pausing beside streams and waterfalls, exploring rocky coastlines—these journeys, along with 4 years of formal art training at Browne School of Art, inform and inspire.
Nature’s grandeur and mystery become both muse and mirror—reflections of something greater that stirs imagination and awe.
Inspiration for the works on display include:
-
Day walks through Tongariro National Park, exploring the bush, streams, and the lower reaches of Mount Ruapehu.
-
Hiking the Milford and Routeburn Tracks—immersed in Fiordland’s rugged alpine bush, thunderous waterfalls, dramatic mountain passes like the Mackinnon Pass, and the valley floors of the Arthur and Routeburn rivers.
-
Kayaking around the golden beaches and trekking the trails of the Abel Tasman National Park.
-
Exploring the coastlines of Northland and the beaches of Coromandel.
-
And, contemplating the urban landscape of Auckland’s Tamaki Estuary, marveling at the resilience and expansion of the mangroves.
These experiences continually remind me of the natural world’s beauty and fragility—a delicate balance that deserves reflection and protection.

My Process: Observation, Abstraction, and Play
My creative process is rooted in walking, slowing down to observe, and capturing moments through photography and sketching. I’m constantly searching for patterns, textures, shapes, and colours that evoke the interconnectedness and timelessness inherent in the land.
Through playful abstraction, I weave these elements into compositions that explore unity, the threads that tie us to our past and prompt us to question our place in an evolving world.

Colour is central to my work; it is through colour that I express the transient, shifting nature of the landscape, while acknowledging its enduring beauty. My canvases become spaces for dialogue—between elements that shouldn’t coexist yet do, between chaos and harmony, tradition and innovation. I embrace the challenge of layering, juxtaposing, and pushing visual boundaries to reflect nature’s complexity and its symbiotic relationships.

My Purpose: A Journey for the Viewer
Ultimately, I strive to guide the viewer on a journey of contemplation—a moment of pause, a visual prayer, an invitation to breathe and reflect within the busyness of modern life.
Through my art, I hope to offer a glimpse of the wonder I find in New Zealand’s landscapes, encouraging mindfulness, gratitude, and a renewed sense of connection with our extraordinary world.
