Drawings in "Feathers of Aotearoa" illustrate the diversity in patterns on feather of New Zealand birds. These patterns are all fit for purpose revealing a lot about the birds lifestyle.

"A bird featured in my upcoming book Feathers of Aotearoa is the Red Tailed Tropic Bird, a rare stranger to the north of New Zealand. Its central tail feathers evolved into long bright red streamer. There are many such display feathers amongst birds- feathers that are unique to a species and mostly used for social purposes such as courting behaviour."
