About the event

Date: Friday 14 April 2023 Time: 6pm - 8pm Venue: ArtSelect Gallery, 19A Osborne Street, Newmarket Amber Brook "I have grown up loving all aspects of art and have always especially loved painting. I love my art to tell a story and in a lot of my work reflect memories and things I have grown up with. I have always been drawn to vibrant color palette in my work and especially love incorporating reds and turquoise. I also love to bring nature and bird life into my pictures. I love every painting to be special and unique. I have been painting professionally for the past twenty years entering many exhibitions and doing commission work, selling both nationally and internationally. I love that I have been able to follow in my mums footsteps and learn from her allowing me to teach art to both children and adults . The greatest gift is being able to share and help others learn through art. I will continue learning and always strive to come up with new and exciting concepts" Amber Brook's works of art on display can be previewed on this web page:We are excited to invite you and your guests to meet Amber Brook and Julian Hindson  at the opening of this Joint Exhibition. https://www.artselect.gallery/amber-brook Julian Hindson Julian Hindson was born in in Yorkshire, UK in 1973 and now paints from his studio in Auckland. Julian’s preferred application of his artistic inspiration includes painting, digital and hybrid using acrylic and shellac, mixed media on canvas or board. Julian's love of art and painting has grown from his mid-teens and was inspired by a dream.

“I still remember the dream as clear as day. I was in a gallery. There were no walls or floors, only a velvety pitch-black backdrop punctuated by stars. Floating on invisible walls were amazing works of art. Each piece of art in the exhibition was large, very large. The colours and compositions were indescribable, I was 16 years old. Since having that inspiring dream, I have been working towards achieving this vision.”

- Julian Hindson Julian paints full time and he draws on over 30 years of graphic design and art direction experience. His work is maturing rapidly and demand is increasing steadily with growing number of local and international collectors in London and New York.

ArtSelect Gallery is excited to present the Golden Era exhibition to showcase Julian Hindson’s works of art.

“I am thrilled to present a series of works that blend elements of Mythological Greek and Japanese aesthetics with the rich and vibrant Art Nouveau style. At the heart of this collection are various anthropomorphic Tui's, a nod to the unique and iconic avian species native to Aotearoa.

My intention with these works is to create a sense of both timelessness and whimsy, by fusing together elements from different cultures and periods in time. The use of gold-leaf paint adds a touch of the opulent and the grandiose, while the starkly isolated anthropomorphic subjects inject a sense of childlike playfulness and humour.

The figures themselves are inspired by traditional Greek and Japanese sculptures and figures, which I have reimagined and updated to fit within a contemporary context. The use of vibrant colours and bold, dramatic shapes is a hallmark of the Art Nouveau style, which emphasises the divine beauty and importance of nature.

Ultimately, my hope is that these works will draw in and invite viewers to experience a sense of wonder and delight, as they explore the intersection of different cultural and artistic traditions. By bringing together seemingly disparate elements in unexpected ways, I hope to encourage viewers to consider new, wonder-filled possibilities and expand their creative horizons.”
